Press Release Body = Fenwick, Ontario (July 11, 2007)-Web designers everywhere have
been frustrated with the seemingly endless complexity of CSS (Cascading Style
Sheets), the dominant technology used to control web site designs on the web today.
Skybound Software aims to address their problem with StyleSpread, a high-end CSS
editing tool.
The current tools are essentially text-based editing systems and/or an "add commands
via point and click" system. StyleSpread has taken a radically different approach by
making the software work akin to a spreadsheet. The company says that the
spreadsheet approach has resulted in a number of new possibilities that would either
be impossible or excessively difficult to implement in a text editor, such as the
software's unique ability to simplify CSS.
"During our research, we found that CSS is a bit of a 'black box' for many CSS
designers, especially newer ones. It's almost as if these designers are taking
random shots in the dark, trying random styling commands and hoping to eventually
end up at the desired result. ", said Skybound Software's president, Paul Young.
"Our software helps designers to better understand what their CSS is doing, allowing
them to tweak their designs and track down problems faster."
Other tools such as the Firebug extension for Mozilla, and Microsoft's Internet
Explorer Developer Toolbar already allow designers to perform CSS diagnostics,
however, StyleSpread allows the diagnostics, the editing, and the simplification to
occur all in one place. This results in less application switching and greater
productivity, says the company.
Skybound is currently taking orders for the licenses of the software on the
product's web site, www.stylespread.com.
